We live inside photoshop.
Every image we see- on the subway car, on billboards, magazines, even our grocery store flyer has gone through a round (or several) of photoshop to make it blemish-free and sexy.
We are quickly becoming intolerant of anything that looks less than perfect. After all, we only want something that looks extra-ordinary!
As a commercial photographer, my job dictates producing imagery that would create- in the viewer, the urge to acquire.
While the fashion industry is in a state of reformation, moving towards a more restrained use of retouching, instead celebrating the natural beauty of people of all skin colours, shapes and sizes, our fruit and veg are still being subjected to a cruel level of scrutiny.
I say it’s time to end it and ring in a new era of accepting fruit & veg that’s less than perfect!
In the wise words of the poet & philosopher Lady Gaga,
I’m beautiful in my way
‘Cause God makes no mistakes
I’m on the right track, baby I was born this way.
